Relative humidity, as indicated by your hygrometer, does not reflect the actual moisture content of the air surrounding your cigars, because it varies with temperature. For example, at a relative humidity of 70%, the air contains 36% more moisture at 25 °C (77 °F) than at 20 °C (68 °F).
Cigars are hygroscopic. Hulecos developed the Cigar Moisture Content model (HMC2), which accurately reflects the moisture content of cigar leaves, regardless of temperature and relative humidity.
The H1 displays the cigar’s moisture content (HMC2) using simple symbols:

Equipped with its dedicated cap inside the humidor, the H1 calculates and displays the relative humidity (RH) level required to reach the desired HMC2 level, based on the current temperature. After automatically collecting the data, the H1 provides recommended adjustment settings.

WHY HULECOS
Cigar moisture content: a scientific challenge
Cigars have their own mechanism for interacting with water: they are hygroscopic, which means they absorb water from the air into their leaves through a unique physicochemical process, similar to a sponge.
Hulecos tested various mathematical models to determine the water concentration in cigars and established the optimal model, Hulecos Cigar Moisture Content (HMC2).
Regardless of temperature and relative humidity, HMC2 clearly reflects the actual preservation state of your cigars.
Temperature plays an important role and is always combined with relative humidity. Temperatures above 24 °C can lead to the development of ladybug eggs, with a devastating effect on your cigars.
HMC2 calculates EMC (equilibrium moisture content). The recommended EMC for cigars is generally between 12% and 15%.
Relative humidity measures water vapor pressure. It is important, but it is not sufficient on its own to determine the actual moisture content of cigars.
